Sonya Jacobs

    Practice Experience

Sonya is an experienced business attorney who advises companies on a broad range of transactional, commercial, compliance, and general corporate matters. With experience in both private practice and as in-house counsel, Sonya brings a practical, business-focused perspective to helping clients structure transactions, manage legal risk, and address the day-to-day legal issues that arise in operating and growing a business.

At Podolsky Law, Sonya’s practice includes advising businesses on commercial agreements, corporate governance and compliance, business policies and procedures, and a variety of matters arising from companies’ online and consumer-facing operations. Her work includes drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and advising clients regarding intellectual property rights, e-commerce and consumer-facing policies, and related contractual and compliance matters. Her corporate and transactional experience complements Podolsky Law’s broader intellectual property and technology practice, including the firm’s work involving technology transactions, brand protection, online business activities, and the commercialization and protection of intellectual property.  Sonya also advises clients in connection with business disputes and litigation. Her experience on both the transactional and dispute-resolution sides of business enables her to anticipate potential areas of risk when drafting agreements and counseling clients on commercial relationships.

Before joining Podolsky Law, Sonya practiced with Drew Eckl & Farnham, where she counseled privately held companies, nonprofit organizations, families, and closely held businesses on corporate, transactional, and litigation matters. She frequently served as outside general counsel, assisting clients with commercial contracts, corporate policies and procedures, pre- and post-acquisition due diligence, and business disputes.  Earlier in her career, Sonya spent seven years as Associate General Counsel for an Atlanta-based specialty financial services company. In that role, she counseled the company and its subsidiaries on corporate, transactional, compliance, and litigation matters throughout the United States. Her in-house experience gives her an understanding of the practical, operational, and strategic considerations facing business clients and informs her approach to providing efficient and commercially focused legal advice.

Sonya earned her J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and her B.A., cum laude, from Sweet Briar College. She is a member of the State Bars of Georgia and Louisiana.
